(Why?  Because the photos on the following page are optimized for the different
"gamma" settings of these operating systems.  Windows uses a gamma factor of 2.2
while Macs use a gamma of 1.8.   Linux is usually set to 2.2 also, but if the images
appear washed-out on your Linux machine, try the Mac page instead).
